Pray

Prayer is a weapon of divine power to demolish strongholds.

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.

On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against

the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make

it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

Pray for God’s kingdom to come to earth and his will to be done.

‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your

will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-10

Ask for boldness and opportunities.

…enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out

your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of

your holy servant Jesus. Acts 4:29-30

Pray for, pray with, encourage the person to pray.

Pray for the unblinding of your friend’s eyes, the softening of their heart and that they understand Jesus’ gift of forgiveness.

Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still

would not believe in him. This was to fulfil the word of Isaiah the prophet:

“Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord

been revealed?” For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah

says elsewhere: “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so

they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts,

nor turn—and I would heal them.” John 12:37-40

The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot

see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image

of God. 2 Corinthians 4:4

Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for

fear that their deeds will be exposed. John 3:20

Pray for whichever part of the journey they are up to (based on Engel Scale) that they will…

  • Realise they have an emptiness

  • Begin to be aware of God and learn of God’s character: love, compassion, protection, provider

  • Know that people can have a personal relationship with God

  • Realise that God can be known; pray that God will show his goodness to them

  • Develop an awareness of Jesus and what he offers them (acceptance, welcomes doubts and fears)

  • Explore Christianity and meet with Christians to help them

  • Experience God’s love through Christians

  • Hear and understand the gospel

  • Realise their personal need of the gospel for the forgiveness of their sins

  • Realise the cost of becoming a disciple of Jesus and the cost of not becoming a disciple

  • Realise they need to make a choice and can’t ‘sit on the fence’

  • Understand they need to turn away from things not of God and live Jesus’ way
