Encourage new Christians
Growing as a disciple is really important, so help and encourage new Christians to
Pray to God (talking and listening)
Get baptised
Read the Bible and live by what it says so they become transformed. Encourage them to download a Bible app or buy a hard copy. The NIV (New International Version) is the translation I have used in this book. The Discovery Bible Study can be used individually and in groups, and can be used for any verses of the Bible. Go to the Discipleship section of evangelism.nz to download the DBS resource of the New Testament and see the other resource ideas.
Hang out with other Christians so they can be encouraged and supported and learn about Jesus.
Learn how to share God’s story and their story, and tell others about Jesus.
Put on the Armour of God
Get free from demonic influence (There is a Freedom in Jesus resource accessible from evangelism.nz/disciple)
Serve in God’s kingdom
Read and obey the Bible verses
If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:31-32
You are my friends if you do what I command. John 15:14
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. James 1:22-25
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.… do not give the devil a foothold. Ephesians 4:22-24, 27
Meet with other Christians verses
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. John 15:9-14
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:18-20
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:16-18
