Discovery Bible Study
The Discovery Bible Study is a simple, structured way of opening the Bible by yourself or with others to encounter God through His living Word, discover God’s truth for yourself, explore faith and grow as a disciple. It is suitable for new Christians, people exploring Jesus, mature Christians, kids and adults alike.
God really does speak to us through the Bible. The Bible verses that stand out to you is what God is saying to you. I learnt this really clearly one night when only eight Bible verses were read, yet 20 people had something different stand out to them!
Take turns to facilitate the process, with everyone participating as they feel comfortable regarding reading aloud. Make it clear that it is optional to read aloud. Break into groups of 3 or 4 for the sharing time. When it’s your turn to facilitate, only say as much as absolutely necessary to keep the process rolling, and model sharing a small amount when its your turn to share. If someone shares something confidential, remind the group to keep the personal information confidential.
I highly recommend that you keep a record of what stood out to you and what you are going to do. This way you can remember what God has said and what you are trying to grow in. It will also be a record of how you have grown!
This method is so easy, you can share it with a friend, and they can share it with a friend etc.
I hope that you enjoy using this approach to grow as a disciple of Jesus and help others explore Jesus.
