Connecting with the Community at Neighbourhood Weekend

On Sunday 9 April 2016 a Community Fun Day was held at Sockburn Park. About 500 people enjoyed the free event of sausages, ice-cream, popcorn, home baking, fizzy, 3 legged races, sack races, egg and spoon races, icing cupcakes, carnival games and riding ponies. They loved hearing the kid’s bands and watching the local dance academy show their talent. Many also showed interest in the community programmes that were showcased at stalls around the park including ICONZ, IFG, Shufflebumz Preschool Music and Movement, Toy Library, War Memorial Library and Garmonsway School of Dance.  Westside Community Trust (Westside Church) hosted the event, collaborating with other local churches and organisations.  A community picnic is going to be held in a few weeks for the community to get together again, and a Community Disco is scheduled for August. Another Fun Day will be held as part of Neighbourhood Week at the end of October. A community picnic will be held after each of these events with the wet weather plan of a family friendly movie.  Westside Trust is hoping to help the community to have lots of fun and develop a greater sense of wellbeing and belonging and to connect with the programmes available in the community.
